Albuquerque
NM, - 7/16/2003 - Energy Control Inc. (ECI) has been recognized
in SDM Magazine's 8th Annual Top System Integrator Report. The report
identifies ECI as one of the Top 100 System Integrators in North
America. This ranking can be viewed at SDMmag.com and defines System
Integrators as businesses that derive more than half of their revenue
from the sale, installation and service of automation systems for
building access control, CCTV Video Surveillance for security and
integration to address other systems such as Heating Ventilating
and Air Conditioning Systems and Information Technology (IT).
ECI's philosophy
is to integrate all facility and campus knowledge systems under
a management information portal for Internet access. An exciting
example is a project completed earlier this year at Albuquerque
Academy that won State and National Awards. This is valuable to
customers because it saves money. ECI customers are saving hundreds
of thousands of dollars per year with Integration, which creates
linkages between systems to make information available that was
previously locked up in separate systems, and most importantly it
makes that data available through the Internet. ECI can integrate
Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning Systems (HVAC) with building
access and Internet-enabled Video Surveillance technology.
Cost savings
come from utility bill reductions, insurance savings, loss prevention,
reduced overtime and a host of other sources that ECI quantifies
and reports to the customer. Often ECI's integrators can use existing
campus computer networks to share information between systems and
gain access to the Internet.
Why Integrate
Systems? Integration's true benefits to building owners are
reducing the cost of operations and gaining a management system
that allows staff to operate buildings much more effectively and
efficiently. Integrating security also helps to create a safe and
secure building environment for occupants.
What is System
Integration? In the past building systems operated in an isolated
fashion, and opportunities were missed to optimize building operations
and ensure occupant safety. Integration makes it possible to act
on those opportunities by sharing information and implementing control
sequences to change how buildings operate. Tracing the steps of
an employee through a typical day provides an example of the benefits
from system integration. Upon arrival the employee uses an access
card to open the door of the building and systems within the building
turn on the lights in that employees area and start the heating
and air conditioning. A security system logs the employee's arrival
and cameras observe building entry to ensure that unauthorized individuals
don't sneak in while the door is open. Comfort and lighting are
maintained all day, and in this example the employee works late.
Prior to walking out to the car this employee calls a 24 / 7 monitoring
center and asks the attendant to observe the parking lot to ensure
it is safe. There is also an audio system is installed in the parking
lot and the employee can be observed while walking to the car and
even talk to the attendant. Throughout the day an information technology
system is capturing data and create a database of management information
that enables the building owner to optimize both cost and operations.
This information is available to management online via hard-wired
and wireless devices such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs)
and Cell phones.
